This weeks episode is all about weight loss. We discuss why so many of us Christians are so overweight. It’s more than the burger you ate last night, more than your lack of exercise. It’s about what’s weighing you down. How everything from our desires to our lack of self-control weigh us down and “so easily beset us.” Lots and lots of laughs, baby impersonations, etc but an overall awesome lesson on how we should focus less on LOSING weight and focus more on GAINING health.
Also the conversation goes further in our “A Little More Matters” bonus episodes for our patreon family, for more info on becoming part go to www.patreon.com/realchurchmatters…Enjoy!
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
beset – trouble, threaten persistently
Living Life Hinders Us From Having Life
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Refuse to be & choose to be
24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
chasing the greater wealth
…26 He considered the reproach (suffering) of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt…
and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
…for he was looking to the reward.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
living Life is a hinderance to having life
22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”
